Drivers & Crew

India's road freight sector is the backbone of the economy, carrying over 65% of all freight by volume. The industry employs an estimated 8–10 million truck drivers across the country, yet fleet operators consistently report a shortage of skilled, licensed drivers. Finding reliable HMV (Heavy Motor Vehicle) drivers — whether for long-haul routes like Delhi–Mumbai or local distribution in metro cities — remains one of the biggest challenges for transport companies.

On BizGrowthUp, you can find drivers and crew for every commercial vehicle category: heavy trucks (16-wheeler, 22-wheeler tractor-trailers), medium-duty vehicles (Tata 407, Eicher Pro series), tanker operators (fuel, chemical, food-grade), car carrier specialists, and city delivery drivers for e-commerce last-mile operations. Many listings include drivers with valid HMV licences, hazardous goods endorsements, and experience on specific routes.

When hiring a truck driver in India, verify the following: a valid HMV driving licence issued by the RTO (Regional Transport Office), a valid medical fitness certificate (Form 1-A under the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988), and adequate experience on similar vehicle types. Long-haul drivers typically earn ₹15,000–₹25,000 per month, while experienced tanker and ODC (Over Dimensional Cargo) drivers command ₹25,000–₹40,000 depending on the route and cargo type.

Driver welfare is increasingly important. The Supreme Court of India has mandated rest stops and maximum driving hours (9 hours per day under CMVR Rule 21B). Responsible fleet operators provide insurance coverage, provident fund, and periodic health check-ups for their drivers.
